Czech internet retailers had combined revenues of CZK 33bn (€ 1.32bn) in 2010 with only CZK 3.9bn (€156m) in purchases made by credit card, according to studies by the Czech association for Electronic Commerce (APEK). Still, the preferred medium for payment for online purchases in the country in 2010 was cash on delivery.
Revenues of Czech online retailers for 2011 are expected to exceed the prior year's value by CZK 4bn (€161m), with a surge of internet purchases expected over the Christmas period. Dominant on the list of products sought after are smartphones and tablets. According to a survey carried out among approximately 2,500 Czechs by
Kasa.cz, one of the leading e-stores in the country, 34% of respondents are planning to purchase Christmas gifts online this year. The company expects to see a boost of sales even in November 2011. Waiting for a seasonal peak, net-based vendors are stocking up on goods, but at present no discounts or other special offers are being advertised.
