Czech deal-of-the-day servers in 2011 showed significant profit with revenues topping CZK 1.95bn (€59m), follows from a survey carried out by
Skrz.cz, a daily voucher selling website. In 2010, according to Michal Hradyn, co-founder of
SlevyDnes.cz (on of the players in the reviewed market), the country’s deal-of-the-day servers had combined revenues of CZK 400m (€15.6m).
The last two months of 2011 accounted for 29.5% of the yearly revenues. Czech group buying servers sold 5.5 million discount coupons in 2011 with the Christmas period pulling in December revenue of CZK 302m (€15m), up from November´s CZK 275m (€11m).
Czechs bought 1.3 million coupons for food and drink at a value of CZK 211.3m (€8.2m) and 1.1 million coupons at CZK 391.4m (€15.2m) for beauty care products. Topping the list were sales for trips at a value of CZK 878m (€34.2m). An estimated one-third of the Czech internet population made use of the deal-of-the-day services available in the country. Discount servers have group in popularity since 2010, with approximately 250 such sites operating on the Czech market. Peter Kovacik, the director of Skrz.cz, considers 2012 to see consolidation on the deal-of-the-day market in the Czech Republic, foreseeing that in the middle of the year there will be only 50 players left on the market.
In fact, this process has been visible for the H2 2011, when
Slevomat.cz and
Zapakatel.cz (owned by Slevomat but operating under the separate brand), two largest sites on the Czech bulk discount market based on revenues strengthen their position and started international expansion. For more information, see the story: “
