Fixed-access broadband subscriptions in Hungary grew by 8.8% in 2011

The number of fixed-access broadband subscriptions grew by 8.8% in 2011 and is estimated at 2.075 million at the end of December 2011, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) reported. Based on data provided by the top 10 providers, the number of subscriptions via FTTx increased by 23% and totaled 265,014; the number of subscriptions via cable grew by 10.75% to 823,724; while the number of xDSL subscriptions registered a slight decrease of 0.35% to 802,365.
When taking into consideration all technologies for providing internet services, the market leader on the Hungarian market is
T-Mobile - owned by Deutsche Telekom, also known as Magyar Telekom - with a share of 34.8%, followed by
UPC - a US based company with 20.9%. The third position is occupied by
Digi, owned by the Romanian telecom services provider
RCS&RDS, while
Invitel is the fourth with 9.8%. Small internet providers had at the 2011-end a combined share of 12%.
