Czechs save on delivery as e-shops resort to local pick-up points

2012-02-20

Czech internet shops are facing an increase in customers choosing to personally pick up goods purchased online so as to avoid paying surcharges for postage and packaging. As a result of this, Czech internet shops are expanding their networks of specialized shops and pick up points. According to figures from Heureka.cz, a leading Czech price comparison server, 52% of internet sales in the country in 2011 ended with a personal pick up. Forecasts show that if there were pick up points in the nearby vicinity, these internet purchases numbers would go up to about 92%. Heureka.cz explains the phenomenon as Czechs saving money, not just with cheaper goods from e-shops but also on delivery. At present, all the major Czech e-shops -- Mall.cz, Kasa.cz and PC component supplier TS Bohemia -- are opening pick up points all over the country.
