Poland offering one of the cheapest Internet connections in Europe
2010-06-14
According to the recent report prepared by the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE), the prices of Internet access in Poland are 39% lower on average when compared to other European countries and the US. The average cost of an Internet connection in Poland is lower in all speed variants ranging from 1Mb/s to 20 Mb/s.
The offers of the Polish operators of 512 kb/s and 1 Mb/s connections are the cheapest among all analysed providers, though the UKE underlines that 80% of the European and American operators have abandoned these transfer speeds. In Western markets the slowest available connection is 2 Mb/s. In turn, in Poland, the most popular line is 1 Mb/s due to its good price which totals to around €12 per month. Still, taking into consideration the transfer speeds between 6 Mb/s and 20 Mb/s, the offer of the Polish providers is not as competitive as in the case of slower connections.
According to OECD data, in October 2009, the average cost of an Internet access in nominal prices totalled to €20.4 per month in Poland, which was the second-lowest charge after South Korea (€19.2). Luxembourg and Turkey had the most expensive connections, of €86.1 and €75.7 a month, respectively.
