Telecoms market in Georgia - November 2008

Starting from the year 2000, the telecommunications sector in Georgia has been evolving at 21% on average per annum and its share in GDP has increased from less than 1% in 2000 to 3.1% in 2007. The high growth rate has been powered mainly by mobile telephony, which currently holds the largest share (64%) in the telecoms market. The ISP segment also showed a spectacular growth, however due to its relatively small size, its development did not contribute much to the growth of the telecoms market. Fixed-line telephony, due to under-investment over decades, has been characterized by outmoded and inadequate infrastructure, hence relatively low growth rates.
