In December 2016, MNO O2 Czech Republic carried out its first ‘real environment’ trial of 4.5G technology in Prague. In theory, the internet speeds will reach up to 1.2Gbps. The operator is actively preparing for the advent of 5G in the coming years, however test 4.5G network does not yet support any end user device: the first smartphones supporting multi-band CA, 4×4 MIMO technology and 256QAM should be on the market by the end of 2017. O2 CR is using 65MHz of bandwidth for the trial.
In July 2016, O2 Czech Republic announced that its 4G LTE network covered 90% of the Czech population. In the first half of 2016, the operator extend its 4G coverage to 5,500 municipalities.
