Play Communications, the owner of Polish mobile operator P4 announced that it had received a decision from Polish telecom market regulator UKE based on which it will get the utilisation rights for frequencies in the 3701-3715 MHz and 3715-3729 MHz bands. The allocated resources were originally held by E-Internets and Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (currently T-Mobile Polska) and more recently by Sofnet Group. P4 bought the frequencies from the latter. The transaction value was not disclosed.
Owing to this decision, Play will be able to use 14 MHz in the 3701-3715 MHz band and 14 MHz in the 3715-3729 MHz band from 1 October 2017. Both reservations are valid until 29 December 2019. Play states that the frequencies will be used to maximise available capacity and usability of mobile internet using technology 4G (LTE systems) and increase the use of frequency resources for 5G technology. Other Polish operators, T-Mobile and Netia, held similar frequency reservations in nearby bands.
